Friends of Stonerose

The Friends of Stonerose Fossils is a non-profit organization that owns and operates the Stonerose Interpretive Center and Fossil Site. The organization was established in 1989. Wes Wehr (1929 - 2004), affiliate paleobotanist from the Burke Museum of Natural History; former Republic Mayor, Burt Chadick; former Curator Madeline Perry; and the first three directors Gary Anderson, Richard Slagle and Klifton Frazier, were instrumental in the development of the organization.

Board of Directors

The Friends of Stonerose Board of Directors consists of five to seven Directors. Regular board meeting are held at the Stonerose Interepretive Centier, 15-1 North Kean Street, Republic, WA at 5:00 p.m. on the following dates.

Become a Member

Memberships to the Friends of Stonerose Fossils are available and you are invited to join. Money raised through memberships, sales, and donations help to preserve Republic's unique fossil resource and manage it for the education and enjoyment of all. Members receive:

  • A 10% discount on most items for sale in the Center. Consignment items do not apply.
  • Complimentary admission stickers to the site any time they wish to dig (during regular season hours).
  • Entrance to the Wes Wehr Eocene Garden (a members-only site).
  • An invitation to the annual Members-Only Dig (held at the beginning of the season on the same weekend as the Stonerose Art, Antique and Collectibles Auction).
  • Reciprocating membership (entry) to the Burke Museum of Natural History.

Volunteer

Volunteering is an excellent way to learn more about Stonerose. Volunteers of all ages help Stonerose reach its mission of expanding the educational expreriences of the general public. Volunteers also learn diverse skills from local history and customer service and to scientific processes and fossil idenification.
